It is a very common ailment for a lot of people. It can be cause by things such as stress, clenching or grinding (bruxism) of the teeth, trauma, dental problems or poor breathing habits.
TMJD is a very common issue that occurs for a lot of people, while clicking and popping of the jaw is usually not a cause for concern, untreated TMJD issues can go on to cause many chronic issues if left untreated.
There are several options available to treat the issue.
The dentist can make a nightguard which will protect your teeth from damage if you are clenching or grinding your teeth.

From here a combined approach is often best, using the nightguard to protect the teeth and having manual therapy/ exercise therapy on the jaw.
